film/video curriculum and the music department have created an opportunity that
is truly exceptional. As a prelude to the Charlotte Symphony’s
presentation of Leonard Bernstein’s symphonic suite from<i> On The
Waterfront</i>,* Alan Yamamoto, resident conductor of the symphony, has made
himself available for a very special symposium on October 23 at 4:00 p.m. in
Tate Hall, located on the second floor of the Overcash Center on Central
Campus. <o:p></o:p></span></p>

<p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"'>This
event is in anticipation of a unique and exciting multimedia concert. On
November 14 at Halton Theater, Mr. Yamamoto and the Charlotte Symphony will
perform the symphonic suite from<i> On the Waterfront</i> live, accompanying a
screening of a re-edited film montage from the Elia Kazan film by CPCC’s
own Philip Broome and George Cochran. <o:p></o:p></span></p>

October 23 symposium will explore the CPCC film/video program’s
contribution to this multimedia experience, demonstrating the power of the
music track as it supports both the original motion picture and the
Broome/Cochran film creation, as well as the cultural and political
implications that impacted Elia Kazan’s Academy Award-winning film
(1954).<o:p></o:p></span></p>
