This process allows us adequate time to understand the technological impact, ensure the availability of sufficient resources, and coordinate the acquisition, testing and implementation of needed software, hardware and services prior to the start of semester. This is a reminder to submit your computer classroom setup requests to Information Technology Services by the following deadlines: Summer semester 2008: May 2, 2008 Fall semester 2008: May 23, 2008 Requests received after these dates will need to be authorized by your dean and will be addressed on a first-come, first-served basis. Examples of the types of things you need to communicate to us are: * department purchase of new software, * adopting new course materials which require a particular plug-in or other software installation, * need for a non-Windows XP operating system, * need for additional network storage, * new hardware which needs to be installed, etc. To request a change, simply fill out the Setup Classroom Configuration web form found https://secure2.cpcc.edu/classroom Include any software (e.g. applications, compilers, plug-ins, freeware, CDs from texts), or hardware (e.g. swappable drives, routers, peripherals) or other need (e.g. additional file storage, specific server configuration) required to operate the class for the entire semester. If you would like to review the list of the standard software that is included in each computer classroom, open computer lab or smart classroom, please visit http://www1.cpcc.edu/its/faculty-staff/technology-enhanced-facilities/in structional-images Important: Windows XP remains the current operating system for all Microsoft computer platforms at the college. Starting with the summer 2008 term, Microsoft Office 2007 products will be the only version of Microsoft Office included on every College-owned computer. In an effort to mitigate confusion and software conflicts, Microsoft Office 2003 products will be provided only if specifically asked for through this process. Please recognize that our ability to meet identified needs is contingent upon the availability of resources (funds, personnel, time). After reviewing your request and if needed, we will initiate a dialogue with your department to establish accurate expectations. If we do not receive any requests to change your classroom setups, we'll assume that the current configurations meet your needs, and your classrooms will remain as they are with the exception of Microsoft Office as noted above. Thank you. The guide is titled "State/Institutional Budget Module Resource & Training Guide FY 09" and can be used as a quick reference resource for loading your budget. For hands-on assistance with loading your state and/or institutional budget for your areas of responsibility, you are welcome to attend a Budget Prep Work Session at Harris Conference Center at Harris Campus in Room #2121. You can sign up for these help sessions (scheduled for weekdays only through May 15, 2008) via LearnerWeb under the event title of "State/Institutional Budget Prep FY09 Work Session," which can be found on CPCC's intranet site. Since these work sessions do not qualify as training, attendance at these sessions will no longer enable you to earn Professional Development hours; however, enrollment is still highly encouraged for planning purposes. In March 2008, Budget staff distributed full-time salary information to account managers for their review. This information (full-time salaries and accompanying benefits), along with any changes requested, has been automatically loaded into the Budget Module. So you will not be responsible for inputting this information. However, you will need to enter any needed budget for part-time and/or overload salaries and the accompanying benefits. Budget staff will be stationed at HCC 2121 through May 15, 2008 (weekdays only) in the mornings from 8:30 to 11:30 and afternoons from 1:00 to 3:30. Again, if you wish to attend one of these work sessions, please enroll via LearnerWeb . Most instructional areas and some employees have already upgraded to Internet Explorer 7 and will not be affected. To determine which version of Internet Explorer is installed on your machine: 1. Open Internet Explorer 2. From the Help Menu select "About Internet Explorer" When Internet Explorer 7 was first introduced there were numerous reports of compatibility issues with existing websites and services. This initial release of Internet Explorer 7 was delayed for College-owned computers to ensure that compatibility issues have been resolved or minimized when interacting with Web-based services including Blackboard, Moodle, College websites, and Web-based applications. While Microsoft is still supporting Internet Explorer 6, version 7 includes similar features and capabilities as well as additional functionality such as tabbed browsing, phishing filters, and instant search. Tabbed browsing - Internet Explorer 7 lets you view many different websites at one time; all within one organized window. Phishing filter - This filter scans the Web addresses and Web pages you visit for characteristics associated with known online Web fraud or phishing scams, and warns you if sites you visit are suspicious. Instant search - Web searches using your favorite search provider, including Google, can now be entered into a search box within the toolbar, eliminating the clutter of separate toolbars. You can easily choose a provider from the dropdown list or add more providers. For more information about Internet Explorer 7 and to tour this new version, please visit: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/ie7/tour/fre/interface/ For questions regarding Internet Explorer 7 or other technology-related items, please contact our ITS Help Desk at 704.330.5000 or helpdesk at cpcc.edu . The old look of Excel menus and buttons has been replaced with this new Ribbon, with tabs you click to get to commands. With Excel 2007, instead of having 30 or so undisplayed toolbars and commands buried on menus, you have one control center-the Ribbon, which brings together the essentials and makes them very visual. Commands are organized in small related groups. For example, commands to edit cells are grouped together in the Editing group, and commands to work with cells are in the Cells group. When you try the new design, you'll discover that the commands you already know how to use are grouped together in ways that make sense to you. An updated Colleague Budget Module Resource and Training Guide is on CPCC's intranet site at http://inside.cpcc.edu/budget/default.htm. If you need assistance outside of the scheduled work sessions, please email Budget staff and someone will get with you as quickly as possible. We cannot stress enough the importance of submitting grades on time for the financial aid process of satisfactory academic progress (SAP). SAP is a Department of Education-mandated process completed each semester to determine if a student maintained minimum standards during the semester to continue receiving financial assistance. We have had instances in the past where not all grades were submitted on time and ineligible students were permitted to receive aid. It was not until all grades were in that they were determined to be ineligible, and we had to bill the student and return funds to the Department of Education. This is a disservice to students and increases college liability. The spring term ends on May 10, and grades are required to be posted within 48 hours. Students will begin purchasing books using financial aid on May 14. All grades must be in no later than May 13 so that we can complete the SAP process to prevent ineligible students from receiving aid. Thanks for your help. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... An updated Colleague Budget Module Resource and Training Guide is on CPCC's intranet site at http://inside.cpcc.edu/budget/default.htm. If you need assistance outside of the scheduled work sessions, please email Budget staff and someone will get with you as quickly as possible. Thank you and best wishes for a successful new year! -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Handel on May 16, 17 at 8:00 p.m. and May 18 at 2:30 p.m. at the Dale F. Halton Theater. Most arts enthusiasts know Handel for his oratorio Messiah, but it was actually his Italian operas that made his career soar. This historical and beautiful Italian baroque opera will be performed in concert version with orchestra and sung in Italian with supertitles. Singing the role of the Roman general Julius Caesar will be bass-baritone extraordinaire Dr. Douglas Crawley of Hickory Grove Baptist Church. Joining Dr. Crawley will be Mary Cooke as Cleopatra (Queen of Egypt), Paolo Pacheco as Ptolemaus (King of Egypt, brother of Cleopatra), Ashley Kerr as Sextus (son of the slain Pompey), Jacqueline Ashley as Cornelia (wife of Pompey), Gil Ezring as Achillas (general to Ptolemeus), and making her operatic conducting debut will be CPCC's own Dr. Roxanne Holt-Watson. This love story of Caesar and Cleopatra is enhanced by some of the most beautiful melodies one will ever hear. Tickets can be purchased by calling the CPCC Dale Halton Theater Box Office at 704.330.6534 or by going online to http://arts.cpcc.edu/.
