Throughout Charlotte, there has been an increase in the number of car
break-ins recently.
CPCC has also experienced this problem on various campuses. In most
cases, the break-in was a result of valuables being visible within the
vehicle. CPCC Security encourages all students and employees to remove
valuables from plain view when parking on campus.
If you see suspicious activity, please contact CPCC Security at

Subject: [Cpcommunicator] ADVISORY: Update on county budget for CPCC from
Dr. Tony Zeiss
Message-ID: <0FE9B5355B63894FAB7FC320CBCD94AE377DC0@CEVS7-CENTRAL.cpcc.edu>
>From Dr. Tony Zeiss
As you may have heard recently on the news, the county budget process
has been challenging for many this year. In tough economic times, the
county commissioners have a difficult task in funding the many critical
needs in our community. CPCC certainly is one of those critical needs.
In our initial request, CPCC asked for $28,346,487 from the county to
support our operating needs such as maintenance, security, and
utilities. The county manager recommended $26,174,000; however, in the
County Commission meeting Tuesday night, a straw vote supported an
additional $800,000 for the College. This would bring CPCC's funding
from the county to $26,974,542. Although this amount falls short of our
original request, we are appreciative of the support and vote of
confidence in CPCC.
I'm quite sure that we are valued for our critical services to students
and those who employ them. The reduced funding will challenge us with
our security and maintenance funds, but hopefully will not affect
instructional services.
A final vote will be taken on June 17 by the county commissioners.

Message-ID: <0FE9B5355B63894FAB7FC320CBCD94AE377DC5@CEVS7-CENTRAL.cpcc.edu>

The installation of the new MFPs continues. All the new machines should
be installed by the end of this week.
Campus Printing has a list of old machines to be disposed of, but with
about 150 machines on six campuses it can be difficult to keep up with
them all. If you have an old machine left in your area after the
installation of a new MFP, if you would email Richard Griffin
Richard.griffin at cpcc.edu with the location and model of the machine, it
will help us assure that they are removed in a timely fashion.
Also, if you believe you would like training in the operation of the new
MFP or the Print Manager application that comes with it, please contact
Richard Griffin for that as well.
Make it a grand day.

>From Dr. Tony Zeiss
As President, I believe it is important to keep the lines of
communication open. As changes occur at the College, our employees need
to be informed. With that in mind, I want to share with you that Janet
Chernega, Vice President for Learning at CPCC, has requested the
opportunity to serve as the Dean at the Levine Campus. Prior to
accepting the Vice President role, Janet served as Dean of Central
Campus for several years.
In anticipation of Dr. Augustine Martinez's retirement in the spring of
2009, this change will take place effective July 1, 2008. Augustine will
provide assistance with this transition, as well as offer leadership in
the hiring of 46 new positions in the Learning Unit, assist with their
orientation to the College, and oversee special projects as assigned. He
will remain at the Levine Campus until his retirement.
Richard Zollinger has agreed to serve as the interim Vice President for
Learning during this transition. Richard has effectively served this
College for more than 18 years and will provide tremendous leadership in
this role.
I want to personally thank Janet Chernega for the leadership she has
provided to the Learning Unit over the past five years. I sincerely wish
her well in this important role as Dean at the Levine Campus overseeing
the Business, International and General Studies programs. In addition, I
would like to express my gratitude to Dr. Martinez for his outstanding
commitment to the College and his continued support during this
transition. Many thanks to Richard Zollinger for his willingness to take
on this leadership role.
I know you will join me in making this transition as smooth as possible.
Thank you for all you do to make this College and our students
successful.

Starting the week of June 23, 2008, all College workstations will begin
migrating from our existing Trend Micro Antivirus and Antimalware
solution to Microsoft's ForeFront Security.
Once the migration is complete, the round blue Trend Micro icon will no
longer appear by the computer clock; this icon will be replaced by a
green check mark associated with Microsoft ForeFront Client Security.
Due to the complexity and sensitivity of replacing the antivirus and
antimalware programs we are requiring those that have been assigned a
CPCC laptop to bring the laptop to the ITS Help Desk for a manual
upgrade process. This manual process will ensure that the antivirus
software has been upgraded correctly and that the laptop is properly
receiving the antivirus updates.
For support with this or any other IT service, contact the ITS Help Desk

Message-ID: <0FE9B5355B63894FAB7FC320CBCD94AE69678E@CEVS7-CENTRAL.cpcc.edu>
>From Tracie Kanellopoulos
Interested in carpooling now that the price of gasoline has hit $4 per
gallon?
We've had a positive response to the preliminary inquiry to see if there
is any interest in organizing an informal CPCC carpooling program. The
College would host a listing of interested employees with their campus
locations, home zip codes, and office extension numbers. Using the
carpool list, employees could quickly and securely find other
individuals who share similar commutes and work hours and are interested
in carpooling. Those interested would make phone contact and then
arrange for carpooling.
Initiating a CPCC carpool could lower our gas bills, reduce the number
of individuals commuting alone, and take a leadership role in saving our
environment plus help employees get to know their co-workers! Let us
know what you think.
If you are interested, please send an email to Tracie Kanellopoulos,
and we'll
report back our findings. Sponsored by the Be Well Committee, Human
Resources, and Environmental Health and Safety.

Message-ID: <0FE9B5355B63894FAB7FC320CBCD94AE6967DD@CEVS7-CENTRAL.cpcc.edu>
>From Dr. Tony Zeiss
Dear Colleagues,
Every day, I am reminded of the outstanding work of this College. From
the recent CPCC graduate who spoke at the County Budget Public Hearing
last week about how CPCC turned his life around, to the bright-eyed high
school graduate who will be coming to orientation in just a few short
weeks, CPCC brings meaning to thousands of lives in this community. Our
work is invaluable, and the success of our students and graduates is a
reflection of what you do each and every day at CPCC.
The recently launched 2008 Employee Annual Campaign provides an
opportunity to extend the work of this College. When financial support
starts at home with our College family our message in the community is
even more credible. When we are willing to give back to something that
means so much to us, then others see the importance as well.
I want to personally thank those who have already made a contribution to
the Employee Annual Campaign. Your gift is greatly appreciated and will
be put to good use. If you have not had an opportunity to make a gift
yet, I hope you will join me and many other CPCC colleagues in this
important endeavor. Your gift can be designated to your program area,
your campus, scholarships, unrestricted funds, or Faculty/Staff
development. You can make your gift or download forms at 2008 Employee
Campaign http://www1.cpcc.edu/foundation/2008-family-campaign/.
Again, thank you for all you do for CPCC and our students. Your
commitment, dedication, and support are critical to our success.
Sincerely,
Tony Zeiss
