>From Reade Baker
Dear Colleagues:
The 2009 Employee Annual Campaign is off to a great start. Thank you for
your thoughtful consideration of supporting the College and its students
through a gift to this important fundraising effort.
This year, the campaign has added special incentives and recognition for
you and your campus-the opportunity for donors to receive gifts and
recognition of the campus with the highest participation level.
All donors will receive a Campaign Bracelet. In the coming months,
campaign representatives will make random visits to campuses and
buildings to present special prizes to lucky 2009 Employee Campaign
donors spotted wearing the campaign bracelet. You must be a donor and
wearing a Campaign Bracelet to be eligible for a prize!
In addition, the campus with the highest percentage of participation by
employees will be awarded the inaugural Employee Campaign Participation
Trophy. There is already a good deal of friendly debate between campuses
about who will capture the trophy.
Don't miss your chance to help your campus capture the trophy and to be
eligible for a special prize.
Employees who do not have current pledges or who have not made gifts to
the College since July 1, 2008, should have already received 2009
Employee Annual Campaign materials by mail. You can also click on 2009
Family Campaign
to make your gift online or for more information.
Please call the CPCC Foundation at 704.330.6012 with any questions.
Thank you again for your consideration.

Message-ID: <0FE9B5355B63894FAB7FC320CBCD94AE697063@CEVS7-CENTRAL.cpcc.edu>
>From Shane Jeter
With the end of the fall semester approaching, we want to send a
reminder about final grades.
We cannot stress enough the importance of submitting grades on time for
the financial aid process of satisfactory academic progress (SAP). SAP
is a Department of Education-mandated process completed each semester to
determine if a student maintained minimum standards during the semester
to continue receiving financial assistance.
Veterans' Affairs regulations also require timely grade submission for
determination of continued student eligibility.
We have had instances in the past where not all grades were submitted on
time and ineligible students were permitted to receive aid. It was not
until all grades were in that they were determined to be ineligible, and
we have to bill the student and return funds to the Dept. of Ed. This is
a disservice to students and increases college liability.
With students potentially allowed to purchase books when we return
January 6, all grades need to be in before the break so that we can
complete the SAP process to prevent noneligible students from receiving
aid.
Also, financial aid students who receive a failing grade (F) as a result
of nonattendance need to have the last date of attendance included.

SEANC Scholarship
The dependent's parents or guardian must be a member of SEANC in order to be eligible for these scholarships. Thirty-two awards are $1,000 annual scholarships (16 merit-based, 16 financial need) for four-year college or university students. Eight awards are $500 annual scholarships (5 merit-based, 3 financial need) for those students enrolled in a junior college, community college or technical school.
The scholarship application must be returned completed to the Scholarship Chairman of the district of which the parent is a member. All applications must be postmarked by April 15, 2009.
Judging will be conducted at the SEANC district level and the district winner in each category will be forwarded to the SEANC Central Office in Raleigh for statewide competition. All winners will be notified by June 2009. The following items are called to your attention:
* The applicant and/or parent or guardian must be a member of SEANC. Students whose parent(s) are state employees but not SEANC members are not eligible for the scholarships.
* If you have students who are interested in the scholarships but the parent is not a member of SEANC, download a member application. Eligible members must work for the state or be retired from the state and be a member or eligible member of the North Carolina State Retirement System. The membership application must be filled out and returned to the SEANC Central Office with a check for $96.
* Applicants must apply through the local SEANC district. If the student requires this information, please contact Ren?e Vaughan with the parent's social security number.
* Financial need applicants must include a copy of the FAFSA Student Aid Report.
* The student must be enrolled as a full-time student for the 2009-2010 school year.

Recently, an esteemed student of CPCC passed away as a result of some
very unfortunate events which took place off campus.
The office of Counseling Services recognizes that classmates and
instructors may experience initial shock and despair as they learn of
this tragic event. Student counselors are glad to aid students who are
at this time needing to process their feelings.
Counseling Services also wants to remind the College community that
counselors are available to assist students who are experiencing grief
as a result of similar circumstances in their lives.
If you happen to know of a student who is needing assistance regarding
this event, or with other similar struggles, please encourage him or her
to visit our offices at the campus that is most convenient.

Message-ID: <0FE9B5355B63894FAB7FC320CBCD94AE6970CB@CEVS7-CENTRAL.cpcc.edu>
>From Facilities Services
Electric, ceramic or other portable plug heaters are NOT authorized to
be purchased and brought into the College by employees or students.
For emergency situations or health-related issues as defined by
Facilities Services in conjunction with Health & Safety, space heaters
will be provided by Facilities Services.
If you are too cold, your area coordinator or you should call Facilities
Services Help Line 6000.
You are also requested to keep your area coordinator in the loop of any
direct Facilities Services Help Line 6000 calls to help your area
coordinator prioritize requests in your area.
Electric space heaters must be kept a minimum of 36 inches away from
anything else. (This, of course, means that they should never be under a
desk.)
Another major point is that the tripping of a breaker is a warning sign
that the heater should not be used in that location.
Please rely on Facilities Services staff to determine the proper
location and connection for space heaters when no other solution can be
found.

>From Employee Annual Campaign Campus Captains
Dear Colleagues,
We are writing to encourage your participation in the 2008-2009 CPCC
Employee Annual Campaign. Make your year-end gift now to help your
College and in time for 2008 tax purposes. With increasing enrollment,
your financial support is ever more critical for the success of our
students and the vitality of the College.
CPCC's enrollment is growing by 1% per month, as people seek our
valuable services in these uncertain economic times. Your support will
help extend needed education and training to these members of our
community.
In addition, your gift could be the one that helps your campus capture
the inaugural Employee Campaign Participation Trophy. You could be one
of the lucky donors who receives a special prize if you are seen wearing
the Campaign Bracelet that you will receive in response to your gift.
You can designate your gift for your program or campus, scholarships,
faculty/staff development, or an existing fund created in honor or in
memory of faculty and students. Please click here
to find out more or download the brochure and
pledge card, or click here
to make your credit
card gift on-line.
Our internal support tells the whole community that we employees believe
CPCC is worthy of support. Please give...your support is important!

As one semester comes to an end and we prepare for another, campuses are
in search of information table volunteers. These important volunteers
work to greet students who might be lost, need to know where a class is
moved to, or just need answers to some very general first week
questions.
Please spare an hour or two the first few days of classes to help your
colleagues welcome our students. To volunteer, please contact the

day of internal training to address annual safety training requirements
and targeted professional development.
This year the date for our training is Thursday, December 18, 2008. All
components of Facilities Services will participate. We will also have
the support of the Occupational Health and Safety team.
As always: for emergencies or if a crisis should arise, call Security
Dispatch 6911.
Routine requests for service need to continue to go to the Facilities
Services help desk 6000, and we request that you leave us a voice mail
or email message and we will address those issues on December 19.
