[Cpcommunicator] ADVISORY: Traffic pattern change at Central Campus 4/10
>From Mark Little
Charlotte Department of Transportation Traffic Alert
Charlottetowne Avenue through the Elizabeth Avenue intersection will be
reduced to two travel lanes (one for each approach) Thursday, April 10,
2008, at 9:00 a.m. Travel lanes will be shifted to the east side of
Charlottetowne Avenue for the installation of a conduit system. The
travel lanes will be shifted to the west side of Charlottetowne Avenue
the following weekend.
The travel lanes will be closed for approximately 10 days.
Transit system will not be affected.
Expect delays in this area.
Please note that weather and unforeseen circumstances occasionally
prevent work from being completed as scheduled, and make it unsafe to
reopen lanes or streets when planned. When this occurs, City traffic
engineers work directly with other City staff and contractors to resolve
the situation as quickly as possible and reduce impacts to the traveling
public.
Elizabeth Avenue Business Corridor Project:
The goal of the Elizabeth Avenue Business Corridor Project is to create
an environment that stimulates re-development and favors pedestrians and
transit.
The following improvements will be constructed as part of this project.
* Relocation of curbs to create one lane in each direction with
turn lanes at signalized intersections, bike lanes between Kings Drive
and Charlottetowne Avenue, and on-street parking between Charlottetowne
Avenue and Hawthorne Lane
* Installation of track foundation, tracks, and catenary poles for
future streetcar service
* Installation of wider sidewalks, tree plantings, street
lighting, pedestrian-scale lighting, and steel poles and mast arms for
traffic signals
* Increasing water and sewer line capacity for future development
* Relocation of overhead utilities to an underground ductbank
