[Cpcommunicator] Gilman International Scholarship opportunity
>From Shane Jeter
International experience is critically important in the educational and
career development of American students, but it can also require a
substantial financial investment. The Benjamin A. Gilman International
Scholarship Program brings the experience of studying abroad within
reach of those students traditionally underrepresented in international
exchange programs.
The Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program is a
congressionally funded program sponsored by the U.S. Department of State
Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and administered by the
Institute of International Education through its Southern Regional
Center in Houston, Texas. The goal of the Gilman International
Scholarship Program is to diversify the kinds of students who study
abroad and the countries and regions where they go.
The Gilman Program supports undergraduates who are recipients of the
Federal Pell Grant and awards scholarships of up to $5,000 for study
abroad for up to one academic year. In addition students who study a
"critical-need" language are eligible for one of the 25 Critical Need
Language Supplements of $3,000, for a possible total award of $8,000.
The website, www.iie.org/gilman, also contains valuable resources,
including the online application, guidance for frequently asked
questions.
