[Cpcommunicator] ADVISORY: Message from the President
>From Dr. Tony Zeiss
You may have read or heard in the media about a recent communication
from the North Carolina Community College System (NCCCS) that none of
the state's 58 community colleges may bar students based on immigration
status. In 2004, the NCCCS indicated that individual community colleges
had discretion in whether to admit undocumented aliens.
Since the 2004 state system communication, CPCC has been admitting all
students to the College. Our decision in 2004 was based on reviewing
practices at the public schools and universities that were already
admitting undocumented aliens. We have not required proof of citizenship
for any student. However, all students are admitted and billed based on
in-state or out-of-state residency. The November communication from the
NCCCS was in agreement with our previous practice.
CPCC is an open-door institution and we serve all students. Our goal is
to help all students achieve their dreams, whether it's through our
Adult Basic Skills program, GED/Adult High School, diploma programs,
certificate programs, or to advance their skills through training.
The Board of Trustees and I thank you for your continued support of our
students and our community.
