[Cpcommunicator] ADVISORY: Attendance reporting needed to avoid institutional liabilities

>From Shane Jeter

There is a new contact person, Amy L. Schultheis
<http://secure.cpcc.edu/webpages/view_basic.asp?edirid=166198> , in the
Financial Aid Office with regards to attendance. Changes in
enrollment/attendance must be reported to prevent institutional
liabilities. Throughout the semester, please continue forwarding the
names for those students who have stopped attending or emailing the
information to the Financial Aid Office and Veterans Affairs Office at
amy.schultheis at cpcc.edu

To assist you in the process, a Financial Aid Attendance Report form
<http://inside.cpcc.edu/forms/financialaid/FinancialAidAttendanceReport.
pdf> is available at inside.cpcc. You may email or fax the form (5053)
to our office.

To eliminate FA students being billed and/or VA students being in
overpayment, it is imperative that the Financial Aid and Veterans
Affairs Office receive notification of all "never attendees" and/or
withdrawals as quickly as possible.

According to federal regulations, Title IV funds and VA Educational
Benefits are awarded to a student under the assumption that the student
will attend school for the entire period for which the assistance is
awarded. When a student withdraws, the student may no longer be eligible
for the full amount of Title IV funds that the student was originally
scheduled to receive. If the amount disbursed to the student is greater
than the amount the student earned, unearned funds must be returned to
the U.S. Department of Education within 30 days after the student
stopped attending.

The financial aid award is voided for students who never attended, and
the student is billed for any tuition, fees and/or bookstore charges.
For students who fail to receive at least one passing grade, a
calculation is completed at the 50% point of the semester and the
student is billed for Title IV funds not earned.

If you have any questions, please contact the Financial Aid and Veterans
Affairs Office at 6942.
