[Cpcommunicator] CPCC and Firebird to present "Winter Fire, Winter Light" 11/26 at Halton

On Monday, November 26, 2007, CPCC Arts Division in collaboration with the Firebird Arts Alliance, will present the debut performance of Charlotte's newest 19-member, professional choir - VOX, led by Firebird Arts Alliance Artistic Directors David Tang and Peppie Calvar, in an eclectic holiday spectacle of music, light, dance and video projections. 

 

Guest artists will include the Charlotte Civic Orchestra, the Charlotte Jazz Orchestra, Maha Gingrich's Dances of India, Images Dance Ensemble, the Afro-American Cultural Center's Teen Dance & Drama Ensembles, Dennis Reed & G.A.P., Viva Klezmer, Little Big Eagle, Jim Brock, Rebecca Cook-Carter-soprano, Martha Bartz-mezzo-soprano, Robert Towne-tenor, and Jeffrey Braaten-bass-baritone. Projected art by WonderWorld Film & Video. Lighting by Bobby Golibart. Sound by Paragon Productions.  

 

Musical selections will include Ode to Joy from Beethoven's 9th Symphony, classical choral works by Arvo Pärt and Eric Whitacre, excerpts from Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker, gospel music by Dennis Reed & G.A.P. - one of Charlotte's hottest new gospel groups, big band jazz in Gloria from Mass of Reconciliation (by Peppie Calvar) and "O, Christmas Tree," A Frailach by Viva Klezmer (celebrating Hanukkah), A Native Thanks (celebrating Native American Thanksgiving), and Raas (celebrating the Hindu holiday of Dasera). The Afro-American Cultural Center's Teen Dance & Drama Ensembles will also present It's Important (celebrating Kwanzaa) by Candace Jennings.

 

The performance will take place on Monday, November 26, 2007, at 7:30 p.m. at the Dale F. Halton Theater in the Overcash Performing Arts Center. (http://halton.cpcc.edu <http://halton.cpcc.edu/> ).
