Colleagues,

 

As we opened registration for the first time today at 7:30AM on
Datatel's R18 system, serious performance problems are observed. In
order to facilitate student registration, we're requesting that all
employees not involved with registration related activities sign off
from the Datatel system for the first half of the day today.

 

The system is sized to enable 600 concurrent users. We're experiencing
about 1200 users attempting to access the system simultaneously through
the web. This situation is caused by a combination of factors including:

 

1.      Design changes of the Datatel system in its release 18.

2.      Change of registration opening time from midnight to 7:30AM. The
students who used to register at midnight while no employees were using
the system are competing for system resources with employees.

 

Your ITS team is doing all that is possible to resolve this congestion
and improve system responsiveness. Your cooperation in this effort is
appreciated.

 

We will provide updates as more information becomes available.
