Subject: [Cpcommunicator] Reminder from Financial Aid about posting final
grades
Message-ID: <0FE9B5355B63894FAB7FC320CBCD94AE377405@CEVS7-CENTRAL.cpcc.edu>
>From Financial Aid/Veterans Affairs
With the end of the fall semester approaching, this is a reminder about
final grades.
We cannot stress enough the importance of submitting grades on time for
the financial aid process of satisfactory academic progress (SAP). SAP
is a Department of Education-mandated process completed each semester to
determine if a student maintained minimum standards during the semester
to continue receiving financial assistance.
We have had instances in the past where not all grades were submitted on
time and ineligible students were permitted to receive aid. It was not
until all grades were in that they were determined to be ineligible, and
we had to bill the student and return funds to the Department of
Education. This is a disservice to students and increases college
liability.
With students potentially allowed to purchase books when we return
January 2, all grades need to be in before the break so that we can
complete the SAP process to prevent noneligible students from receiving
aid.
Thanks for your help.

>From Adam Brooks
CPCC Moodle Community -- This is important information for faculty who
will be using the Moodle course management system in the spring 2008
term.
MOODLE UPGRADE -- Over the next few weeks, we will be going through a
process to upgrade the current Moodle system to a newer version. This
upgrade will occur during the winter break and Moodle will be
unavailable December 22, 2007, through December 23. Much will remain the
same but there will be some changes and new features. We have scheduled
"update" training sessions that you can attend. Register for them online
via LearnerWeb at http://pd.cpcc.edu .
VERY IMPORTANT -- In order to ensure that your course(s) are properly
upgraded and migrated to the new system for the spring 2008 term, we
must identify those courses that should be prioritized. For example, if
you plan to copy the content of a master course, your current term
shell, or a prior term shell into your spring 2008 course shell, we need
to know the specific courses. Please submit the online form at
http://virtual.cpcc.edu/forms/?id=moodlemigrate. Your information will
be reviewed and an eLearning representative will contact you if there
are any questions.
SUPPORT -- If you have any questions or need support with eLearning
matters, feel free to call the eLearning faculty support line at (704)
330-6111 or email Instructional Development at idev at cpcc.edu.

The scholarship application must be returned completed to the Scholarship Chairman of the district of which the parent is a member. All applications must be postmarked by April 15, 2008.
Judging will be conducted at the SEANC district level and the district winner in each category will be forwarded to the SEANC Central Office in Raleigh for statewide competition. All winners will be notified by June 2008. The following items are called to your attention:
* The applicant and/or parent or guardian must be a member of SEANC. Students whose parent(s) are state employees but not SEANC members are not eligible for the scholarships.
* If you have students who are interested in the scholarships but the parent is not a member of SEANC, download a member application. Eligible members must work for the state or be retired from the state and be a member or eligible member of the North Carolina State Retirement System. The membership application must be filled out and returned to the SEANC Central Office with a check for $84.
* Applicants must apply through the local SEANC district. If the student requires this information, please contact Ren?e Vaughan with the parent's social security number.
* Financial need applicants must include a copy of the FAFSA Student Aid Report.
* The student must be enrolled as a full-time student for the 2007-2008 school year.
Do not mail scholarship applications to the SEANC Central Office. This will delay the district judging process.
If you have any questions or need additional applications, please contact Ren?e Vaughan at (919) 222-2758.
Applications are available in financial aid. Additional applications may also be downloaded from the SEANC website, www.seanc.org .

>From Facilities Services
To those of you who work in our older buildings on Central Campus, this
is a reminder that weather projections include freezing conditions.
Freezing temperatures are upon us, and Facilities Services will soon
shift the systems in buildings like Terrell, LRC, Kratt and Van Every to
the heating mode, which includes draining the water from the cooling
towers for freeze protection. We cannot physically change them back to
cooling mode for brief periods.
So please dress in layers to deal with what might be chilly offices and
classrooms in the morning and potentially warmer offices and classrooms
in the afternoon as we continue to shift systems over for the next week
or two.
And, as always, direct your maintenance needs and requests through our
customer help desk at extension 6000 or email at
mailto:cpccmaintenance at cpcc.edu.

career in early childhood, elementary, or special education. The award

education, or public college/university students studying education at
the undergraduate level. A $5,000 stipend will be awarded to each

with option to renew.
In addition to completing the application, all applicants must provide
an essay of 800 words or less that includes a brief biological sketch

deserve the scholarship, and future plans. Applicants must have at least
a 3.0 GPA and provide one official transcript from high school and
college or university attended. Two letters of recommendation from
teachers, employers, or administrators must also be provided. Before
receiving any funding, the recipient must be accepted and enrolled in a
public N.C. college or university. Upon receiving a stipend, a student
must complete an acceptance agreement.
Students must maintain a 3.25 GPA and provide one official transcript to
the Foundation after each academic semester. Students will be given the
opportunity and encouraged to volunteer or work at a Ruckus House
Learning Center during the summer and/or school year. Applications are
available in financial aid.

The Futures Institute and the Center for Sustainability present:
"Climate Change & Higher Education: Leadership to Achieve Climate
Neutrality"
* Date: Wednesday, December 12, 2007
* Time: 2:00 p.m.
* Location: Central Campus, IT Building, room 5130
The most pressing environmental issue for our society is our ability to
address the threat of runaway climate change. Colleges and universities
have assumed an extraordinary leadership role to research and implement
the necessary solutions to achieve climate neutrality. As a League for
Innovation Board member college, CPCC joins the League's efforts in
focusing on sustainability. Through environmental and sustainability
activities, higher education is leading by example, sending strong
signals to the markets and policy makers with their actions and enabling
the rest of society follow suit through research and education.
Moderated by the editor of The New York Times' Science Times, this web
cast program will cover the highlights of what is happening in higher
education around climate change, as well as the basics of specific
college activities taking place now and in the future. It will provide
models which are transferable to other higher education institutions
such as CPCC. Participants will learn best practices, national trends
and resources they can utilize. Take a break from exams and attend this
important discussion on a fascinating global issue.
Please reserve a seat and Professional Development points through
LearnerWeb!

1. NC Live adds PBS titles to online collection
Good news! If you enjoy watching PBS programs, you will soon no longer
have wait for reruns. Effective January 1, 2008, PBS programs will be
available to libraries statewide over the Internet via streaming video.
Users will be able to select from approximately 250 educational and
entertainment programming titles for online viewing via NC Live and from
the websites of the state's libraries.
Paid for by grants from the North Carolina State Library, the
award-winning programs available from the PBS collection will include
the science series Scientific American Frontiers, history series Empires
and American Experience, the investigative journalism program Frontline
, and kids' series Cyberchase and Liberty's Kids .
NC Live is the first statewide cooperative to offer streaming technology
in providing these resources.

finding their class schedule, and answering numerous questions. We
appreciate your help in the past, and look forward to your volunteering
