Today is the first day of amnesty month at the CPCC Libraries! So get busy looking under your bed, in your closets, in the trunk of your car, or any where you think you have overdue or lost library materials (e.g. books, DVDs, videos, etc.) This is your chance to bring 'em back without any questions being asked. What's even better is that outstanding fines will be waived if the materials are returned in good condition. So how does this work, you ask? It's simple. All you have to do is: 1. Return any overdue or lost library materials to any CPCC library. 2. Bring in a canned good or other nonperishable food item, and outstanding, unpaid fines from overdue items already returned will be waived. This excludes lost materials. Replacement fees for damaged materials will not be waived. Library materials and food item donations will be received at all campus libraries until April 30. Food contributions from students, faculty and staff without current fines or overdue materials are also welcomed. All food items collected will be donated to the Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina, Charlotte. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Sometimes a student will ask what he can use to prove he's been here a year so he can be a resident. What can I tell him? A. The majority of our students are in-state residents, and it's usually not difficult for them to prove that, but the widespread understanding that simply being here 12 months makes one a resident for tuition purposes can be somewhat misleading, actually. There are folks who've been here for more than 12 months who do not qualify, and some who've been here less than that who do. There are many, many factors that go into residence classification - age, immigration status, reason for being in the state and many others. The duration of residence is only one part of the picture. Of course, there's no particular document or set of documents that is required of anyone. We can only suggest documents that we might be able to use. Those include, but are not limited to, the N.C. driver's license, N.C. tax returns, leases, utility bills, voter registration cards, and so on. We're quite willing to review anything a student has to bring to us to make a case. If that is insufficient, we will suggest other options that may help. I'm a program chair and have a student who's been taking classes in my area, and he wants to be admitted to our program of study. Is there a way I can help him do that? A. Yes, you certainly can do that. Use the Program Admit/Change form available online to submit the student's request to either: * Ask that a student be admitted to a program * Ask that an existing program be changed. * Ask that a program be added. The form can be found by clicking on the Faculty & Staff tab, clicking on Instruction and then on Forms, or simply use the link below. http://www1.cpcc.edu/instruction/forms/students/3106_progchange.pdf/view The form is self-explanatory and confirms via your signature and that of the student that you have appropriately advised the student and that this is being done with his understanding and authorization. Please be sure to remind the student of other applicable admissions requirements such as: * High school transcript with proof of graduation or college transcripts showing an associate's or higher earned at an accredited college * A Transcript Evaluation Request form if applicable * Placement testing. After advising the student and completing the form, ask him to sign it, sign it yourself (legibly, please!) and submit to the Admissions Office at your campus. In most cases, the student will be provisionally admitted within 24 hours or less after receiving the form. Per College policy, he will need to provide proof of high school completion or of having earned an associate's or higher before he can be officially admitted. If you have questions about the form, the Admissions Office at any campus will be happy to help you. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... The Adult High School/GED ceremony is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. The College ceremony is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. All CPCC faculty and staff and all guests will need to go through a security check, so they should allow adequate time. Participants and Volunteers According to the full-time instructor job description, one of the responsibilities of a full-time faculty member is to participate in activities which enhance the College's service to students and to the community. Participation in graduation ceremonies is one way faculty meet this responsibility. Because the College conducts only one graduation ceremony each year, all faculty are expected to march in cap and gown in the ceremony unless they are assisting with graduation as a member of the graduation committee or as a volunteer or unless they are participating in or assisting with the Adult High School/GED ceremony. If a faculty member is unable to participate in the graduation ceremony, the faculty member is expected to inform the division director. Exceptions to active participation in the graduation ceremony will be handled on an individual basis at the division level. Mark Helms (6127) is coordinating volunteers for the College graduation and Florence Patterson (6746) is coordinating volunteers for the Adult High School/GED graduation. Academic Regalia for Students The Graduation Committee is charged with the responsibility of developing guidelines to ensure a ceremony that is both orderly and celebratory. For this reason, we have required graduates to wear the traditional CPCC cap and gown if they wish to participate. In order to make graduation go as smoothly as possible, the Graduation Committee asks that any faculty advisor who wants an exception for the graduates of a particular program explain the exception in writing and send it to the Graduation Committee by April 16, 2007. The committee will consider the request and respond. The committee also asks that faculty and program advisors support the position of the Graduation Committee by discouraging graduates from any deviation of the approved academic regalia. Academic Regalia for Faculty All participants must wear academic regalia. Faculty are also reminded to wear dark slacks or dresses and dark shoes. If faculty want to order caps and gowns they can do so during Central Campus Bookstore hours. Orders must be entered by April 20 to ensure delivery. Payment will be taken when order is placed. If you have any questions please call Nancy Fase at the Central Campus Bookstore. Mitchell Hagler Chair, Graduation 2007 -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Improvements: The Report to Web application has been loaded on a new and faster server. Users should notice a significant improvement in the display of reports. Those users who pull spreadsheets can now just click on the report (without having to save to your PC) and the spreadsheet will come up on your PC. The ability to customize the look of the Report Folder display is now available. Click on View Preferences for the options. Exceptions: Users attempting to view Mainframe (Legacy) reports may receive the following error message: Too many published reports to list. The list of published reports you are trying to access exceeds the maximum number of published reports that may be requested at one time. Please use the Search function to find the published reports you are looking for. This error will primarily occur when trying to view Cashiering reports. Use the Search function to specify the report name and a date range. Current users of Report to Web should find positive changes in the new version of the software and have little difficulty adjusting to the new format. There are still a few lingering security issues to be worked out - please call ITS if your access has changed Whom to Contact: Anyone having trouble logging on to the application and/or viewing reports should contact the ITS Helpdesk at 5000. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Since registration will begin next week for current spring students, I'm wondering about students in my class who want to register for the next level. Since they're currently in the prerequisite class, I'd think they should be able to register, but I've heard that they can't in Colleague. Is this true? Will I have to give them overrides? A. No, you shouldn't have to do that. Colleague will consider the prerequisite to be in progress and should allow the student to register for the subsequent class for summer. For that matter, while currently enrolled in the prerequisite, the student can skip summer and pre-register for the next class in fall. Q. So why have I been told this doesn't work? A. In reported situations, we nearly always found that the class in which the student was enrolled was not the only factor in the prerequisite. There was at least one other class or factor not met by that particular student. Q. OK, that's good. I think there's also a minimum grade requirement for meeting the prerequisite in this case. Will the grade have to be posted before the prerequisite can be met? A. No, Colleague will consider the prerequisite in progress and let the student register until the grades are posted. After grades are posted, the student can no longer register for the class if he did not earn the required grade. Q. Does it matter how they register? Will this work for phone and web, too? A. Yes, it does. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Hopefully, you have been doing your "Be Well" walks in preparation for this event. The campus team captains are doing a great job with fund raisers to provide some additional "FREE" registrations to students/faculty/staff. Team captains can tell you if there are any complimentary registrations remaining. They all hope to capture the coveted Skyline Run/Walk trophy. We are waiting to see who wins this year so that we can have the campus name engraved on the trophy. Cato has won for the last few years, but there is a great deal of activity and "plotting" at the other campuses. We may have a major upset this year! We also have the "Stepping Up" trophy that goes to the team with the largest percentage increase in participation. Please show your support by registering as a member of your campus team. Fast or slow, graceful or awkward--we need you. The registration fee is $18, and proceeds go to support student scholarships. Please see your team captains if you are interested or register online: http://www1.cpcc.edu/foundation/skyline. If you register online, be sure to include your campus name where it asks for "team name." The winning campus team will be treated to a pizza lunch provided by Student Life. Section shells are created based on the information entered in the CODs (Course Origination Documents) for summer 2007. Only courses whose COD lists an instructional delivery type of IN, WB, HY, TV, or TW will have class section shells created. If you need a section shell created, simply have your program chair update the COD. Only the instructors listed in the COD can access the section shell. Choosing to use the Moodle LMS: Request a course shell by visiting the CAW (Course Administration Webtools ) site and selecting your course section from the list. Previous Moodle semesters shells are also available from the CAW site. The requested shell will appear in Moodle approximately six hours after you place the request. Creating new master courses: Master courses can be created on either Blackboard or Moodle at any time by using the 'Master Courses' option on CAW. Copying course content into section shells: All copy activities must be completed by May 21, 2007, before the semester begins. Please note, the course copy feature will become unavailable to instructors at 12:00 a.m. on May 21, 2007. After this deadline, program chairs or instructors will need to contact the ITS Helpdesk at 704-330-5000 to make a request for a course to be copied. Requests will be executed in the order in which they are received. Please allow up to five business days for completion. Prior semester section shells are available to instructors in Blackboard and Moodle for one year. For prior semester BB shells, login to Blackboard. For prior semester Moodle shells, visit the Course Administration Webtools site. On May 21, 2007, the spring 2007 courses will be moved and made available to instructors through the Course Administration Webtools site. Batch copying: If you need course content copied into more than five section shells, batch copying service is available via a form on the CAW site. Copy instructions are also found here . All batch copy requests are due by May 14, 2007, and are acted on in the following order: Fully online classes and then earliest start dates of hybrid classes. Combining several class sections on either Blackboard or Moodle: Please submit a request form located on the Course Administration Webtools site. Student enrollment in class section shells: Students will be automatically enrolled in Blackboard and Moodle section shells on the official start date listed in the COD. Online sections (IN), Hybrid (HY) and TeleWeb (TW) will be made available automatically on the official start date listed in the COD. Instructors are responsible for making (WB, TV) sections available. Assistance with setting course availability can be found here , or call your instructional developer at 704-330-6111. To contact students prior to the start date of class: An email distribution list for your class section becomes available on the CAW site before start of semester. You can use this tool to email your students before class begins. An email broadcast will be sent to all currently registered CPCC students on May 14, 2007. This message will alert them to the necessity of looking up their SNAP accounts before their first class meeting. It also contains information on using the SNAP userID and password and steps to take when participating in an online/TV course at CPCC. The online grading application is available for instructors on the Webadvisor site. College policy requires instructors to submit final grade rosters electronically within 48 hours after the official end of the class as reported on the COD. Grades may be submitted electronically up to one week prior to the official end of the class. Grades submitted electronically after the 48-hour deadline will be considered late and students affected will not receive notification of their grades. Students with Incompletes: In Blackboard, a class section containing a student who has been given an "I" (incomplete) grade, the shell will remain available to that student. The section shell will continue to be available until "I" students have received a grade or for a period of 6 months. In Moodle, the class section will become unavailable to all students (including Incompletes). Instructors must make the shell available to the student with an Incomplete. On May 21, 2007, the summer 2007 Moodle courses will be moved and made available to instructors only through the Course Administration Webtools site. A link must be sent to the student with the new URL to the previous semester. Student access to classes after the official end date: Students will no longer be able to access their classes after the official end date listed in the class COD with the exception of students receiving 'Incompletes'. Students should visit here to view their grades after this date. Scheduled System Maintenance: For the purpose of scheduled system maintenance, LMS platforms will be unavailable on the follows days: Blackboard: Friday, July 6, 2007, 1:00- 8:00 p.m. Friday, July 27, 2007, 1:00- 8:00 p.m. Moodle: Friday, July 6, 2007, 1:00- 8:00 p.m. Friday, July 27, 2007, 1:00- 8:00 p.m. Assistance and Support: If you need training and hands on assistance with course design or related instructional matters, please contact your instructional developer at 704-330-6111. A termination occurs when an employee leaves the College and is no longer employed in any capacity. A status change occurs when an employee changes positions within the College. Examples include the following: * full-time to part-time * part-time to full-time * full-time position to another full-time position or * part-time position to another part-time position Human Resources frequently receives a Termination Notice when, in actuality, an employee is simply moving from one position to another within the College. It is very confusing and creates erroneous personnel records when HR receives a Termination form for an employee who is actually moving from one position to another within the College. Please restrict the use of a Termination Notice to situations where an employee is actually leaving the College. Status changes should be conveyed to Human Resources via an email or memo. If additional paperwork is required, HR will advise on which forms are needed. For more information or clarification, please contact Human Resources at 6631. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
