Thanks, Don Wildman NCCCFA President North Carolina Community College Faculty Association Student Scholarship Awards for 2004-2005 The NCCCFA is now accepting applications from students for the annual scholarship awards for 2004-2005. One student in each of the three regions in North Carolina (Western, Central, and Eastern) will be awarded a $1000 scholarship. Each of the scholarships will be disbursed in two installments of $500 each by the financial aid office of the respective college, provided the student remains a full-time student in good standing for the Fall 2004 and Spring 2005 semesters. Any undistributed monies will be returned to the NCCCFA by the financial aid officer of the respective college. If you are currently a member of the NCCCFA, you may nominate a worthy student that meets the scholarship criteria. You as the nominating NCCCFA faculty member must take a proactive role in the application process, as follows: 1. Disseminate the application form to students that are eligible and, in your opinion, worthy. Application forms are available to be downloaded at www.ncccfa.org. The financial aid offices will not receive the forms. Each school may nominate no more than three students. 2. Assist the student in the application process. For example, review the student's personal essay for grammatical errors and assist him or her in making it more concise if it is too long. 3. Determine the eligibility of the student (i.e., full-time student, 12 hours of coursework completed, GPA of 3.0 or greater). 4. Write a nominating statement, and include the statement with the student's application. 5. The completed electronic application, including the student's Scholarship Application, the student's supporting essay, and the faculty member's nomination statement must be sent by email attachment to Sandy Pierce, Scholarship Committee Chair, at spierce at mayland.edu. Do not fax the electronic copies. The paper copies of the application, including the student's Scholarship Application, the student's supporting essay, and the faculty member's nomination statement should be sent by US Mail to Sandy Pierce, Mayland Community College, PO Box 547, Spruce Pine, NC 28777. Do not fax the paper copies. The student's official transcript should be sent by the college registrar via US mail to Sandy Pierce at the above address. The application is deemed received upon receipt of the electronic copy sent by email attachment. Receipt of the electronic copy by the deadline will constitute meeting the deadline. The official transcript from the registrar and the paper copy of the application documents should arrive within a week of the transmission of the electronic copy of the application. A faxed copy is not an acceptable substitute for an electronic copy; the application must come by e-mail attachment for dissemination to the review committees. An application that arrives in any form other than an electronic copy by email attachment will be rejected. An application is considered complete upon receipt of all required components: a. the electronic copies of the Scholarship Application, the student's supporting essay, and the faculty nomination statement. b. the paper copy of the Scholarship Application, the student's supporting essay, and the faculty nomination statement sent by US Mail. c. the official transcript mailed by the registrar's office of the student's college. Incomplete applications will not be accepted by the review committee. 6. If your school has more than three students who wish to submit applications, it is up to the local membership of the NCCCFA to decide which three applications will be forwarded to the NCCCFA Scholarship Committee Chair for review. In the event that more than three applications from one college are received by the NCCCFA Scholarship Committee Chair, the first three electronic copies that are received will be evaluated. Any other applications will not be accepted. 7. As an alternative, directory information can be accessed for free via charlotte.com . Links to the white pages and yellow pages man be found on the College edirectory http://www.cpcc.edu/directory/.
