After we close on Sunday the opportunity to save on the rest of the season is over. So call today for an exciting year of theatre at CPCC. Call 6534 between 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. to make your reservations. The Fantasticks Sept. 27, 28, Oct. 4, 5 at 8:00 p.m. October 6 at 2:30pm CPCC Theatre kicks off its 2002 03 season with a return of the first musical ever presented on the Pease Auditorium stage in 1969. The Fantasticks is that kind of nostalgic piece that takes everyone back to that giddy moment of first love. Filled with such wonderful songs as "Try to Remember," The Fantasticks is an intimate show that engages the imagination of the audience with its moving tale of young lovers who become disillusioned, only to discover a more mature, meaningful love. Join us in this wonderful trip to revisit the longest running musical in American theatre history and where CPCC Theatre began. Picnic by William Inge Nov. 1, 2, 8, 9 at 8:00 p.m. November 10 at 2:30 p.m. William Inge's Picnic is that kind of classic American drama that CPCC Theatre audiences love. Winner of the 1953 Pulitzer Prize and the Drama Critics Circle Award, Picnic tells the story of the arrival of a drifter into a small midwestern community one hot Labor Day weekend. Like a dropped match in a powder factory, long suppressed emotions are ignited with results never expected or able to be undone. The 1955 Oscar winning film version starring William Holden, Kim Novak and Rosalind Russell was nominated for six Academy Awards. See this exciting evening of sultry drama by one of the masters of American drama. State Fair by Rodgers & Hammerstein Feb. 14, 15, 21, 22 at 8:00 p.m. February 23 at 2:30 p.m. Join us at the Fair! Rodger's & Hammerstein's State Fair will receive its local premier on the CPCC stage this winter. The only musical this duo ever wrote directly for the big screen, State Fair is now a stage musical that has critics raving from coast to coast. Set against the colorful backdrop of the American heartland, State Fair follows the Frake family as they leave behind the routine of the farm for three days of romance and adventure at the annual Iowa State Fair. Come along with the Frakes on a magical journey on the midway in search of true love and blue ribbons. Set to the melodious strains of an Academy Award winning score, State Fair features such popular Rodgers & Hammerstein hits as "It Might as Well Be Spring" and "A Grand Night for Singing." The whole family will enjoy this wonderful musical in all its glorious 1940's big band swing. Ten Little Indians by Agatha Christie April 25, 26, May 2, 3 at 8:00 p.m. May 4 at 2:30 p.m. The excitement never lets up in this superlative mystery by the Grand Dame of the Whodunit, Agatha Christie. In the tradition of The Mousetrap, eight guests are trapped on an island and accused of various crimes by a sinister voice. On the mantle are ten little statuettes of those little Indians from nursery rhyme fame. Beneath them the inscription tells how each of them died until there were none. Who is their mysterious host? Why has he brought them all here? Only the ones who can survive this night of terror will know for sure. Can you? Ten Little Indians promises to be the to-die-for hit of the CPCC Theatre season. --Tom Hollis -------------- This message did not originate from the Office of Community Relations. About 1,400 alumni attended and all 1,400 had a great time. The CPCC Foundation expresses sincere appreciation to all who worked so hard on this event. Fay Foster did her usual magic. Pam Englebert did an outstanding job getting sound throughout the many tents used for the event. Global Perceptions of U.S. Foreign Policy Wednesday, October 16 12:45 - 2:00 pm Pease Auditorium Dr. Radwan Masmoudi will discuss how people from many regions of the world view America. Upon his return from an recent trip to the Middle East, Dr. Masmoudi commented that "the trip strengthened my belief that we must all redouble our efforts to build bridges of understanding and dialog between the U.S and the Arab and Muslim World." Current tensions between America and Iraq make this a timely issue. Religious Tolerance in America Wednesday, October 23 12:45 - 2:00 pm Pease Auditorium Throughout American history, the diversity of religious beliefs in our country has generated controversy, as well as a search for tolerance. As an individual, how successful do you believe America has been in promoting religious tolerance, and how does your own faith fit into this continuing struggle? Dr. Tim Beach-Verhey, Director of Programs for the Theological Exploration of Vocation at Davidson College, will moderate this discussion with CPCC students. Our students are invited to respond to the question with prepared position statements, reviewed by a CPCC faculty mentor, for presentation at this program. Faculty/staff desktop machines, laser printers, computer classrooms, ceiling mounted projectors and smart classrooms are all on a prescribed rotation cycle. Administrative workstations will be replaced every four years and upgraded as college standards change. Student computing facilities are on a three-year replacement cycle with high end technology classrooms being replaced every two years. The planning process will take place between October 7-October 25. The sequence of events in the planning process are as follows: 1. Program chairs/coordinators will document the technology needs of their program areas using the planning form. Request forms are available at http://www.cpcc.edu/itservices/projects/techplan0203/default.asp 2. Directors and associate deans will meet with their respective teams to understand and validate technology requirements submitted to them. Consider your total cost of ownership for any particular equipment/software acquisition, e.g. maintenance agreements, service agreements, software assurance agreements. Technical consultants are available to meet with you to research and refine your requests. Please call 6598 to schedule an appointment. 3. Associate deans send the forms (electronic copies only) to Julie-Ann Anderson for collation by October 25. 4. Collated requests will then be provided to the deans for their review and prioritization. (Tentative date November 5.) 5. CPCC Technology Team will convene to prioritize college-wide requests. 6. The final Annual Technology Plan will be presented to College Cabinet in early to mid-November. Requests for ceiling mounted projectors and laptops will be met by additional smart classrooms on all campuses in the quantity determined by CPCC's Technology Team. Additionally, most requests for laptops and portable projectors will be addressed by increasing the number of laptops and projectors available for checkout through the library. Departmental requests for peripherals like DVD's, scanners, flat screens and CD burners under $500 will not be addressed through this plan as the Technology Plan mainly deals with equipment above this threshold. Such peripherals can be purchased through departmental office supply funds. Supported peripherals are listed at the following link: http://www.cpcc.edu/itservices/equipment/ Technology requests that were approved in FY 02-03 but could not be fulfilled last year are being combined with all new requests and will be reprioritized by the appropriate body. --Celese Ward -------------- This message did not originate from the Office of Community Relations. Microsoft's Team Services is a web-based application that uses the Internet to make information easily available to your team members, wherever they may be. Team Services allows users to share documents, as departmental shares now do, using a web browser interface; allowing users to add, edit and delete documents. Since the technology is Internet based, users may access these documents while outside the college network. In addition to documents, Team Services also makes it easy to post contacts, events, announcements, useful Internet links, or custom lists you create. There are even tools for posting discussion areas and surveys, to help get feedback from team members. Since administration of the site is retained by your team leader, users may be added as needed, without contacting ITS. Team Services sites are compatible with FrontPage, and may be customized with graphics, colors, and layout tailored for your team. With superior features and accessibility, web sharing information technologies will eventually displace the need for departmental network drives. To access a Team Services site, users must have a valid CPCC network ID. To request a Sharepoint Team site, team leaders should submit the user agreement to ITS: http://www.cpcc.edu/itservices/forms/sharepoint2.pdf If you have questions about Sharepoint, or other services provided by ITS, please contact our Help Desk at ext. 5000. --Chris Emery -------------- This message did not originate from the Office of Community Relations. Be familiar with changes or improvements that have been made and be able to answer "So what?" How did things change because of the assessments/evaluations? 3. Be familiar with your most recent program/unit review (includes the goals). 4. Know where your area's goals are located. They do not need to be posted on the wall, but you do need to know how to access them. The content of these email messages is often undesirable or pornographic in nature. Unsolicited email messages broadcast to entire Internet communities are commonly referred to as SPAM. Your ITS team is implementing an anti-spam filter that will attempt to identify and tag SPAM email. This filter uses a preprogrammed set of criteria to preview email messages. Suspect messages are tagged with the phrase *** POTENTIAL SPAM *** in the subject line of the message. Actual message content is not modified. The following criteria are generally used to identify SPAM, although the filter uses a complex and sophisticated algorithm: * Frequency of certain key words within the message * Domain or site used to send the message (known SPAM sites) * Invalid header format of email message (sender unknown etc) * Extraordinarily large number of recipients There is a possibility that some legitimate email will be tagged as SPAM. If you receive mail that has been incorrectly identified as spam, please contact the ITS Help Desk. This will enable us to modify the filter, preventing accidental labeling of future messages. To further assist you with managing SPAM, GroupWise rules can be setup that will automatically delete, or move to a folder, all ***POTENTIAL SPAM*** labeled email. You may want to assess the performance of the SPAM filter on your messages before setting up a rule for automatic deletion. This will prevent the unintended loss of legitimate email. Companies are calling and quoting a competitive price for a cartridge, which supposedly has twice as much toner as normal. These representatives often target large schools and companies. The individuals are extremely pushy and reluctant to provide company phone numbers or website. You may be tempted to try the first one, but you get caught in a cycle of shipments and invoices that is difficult to stop. I contacted toner manufacturers for their advice. They stated the cartridges I referred to in the above paragraph are not made according to manufacturer specifications. Any excess toner causes machine problems, so where are the savings? CPCC Procurement is negotiating a program with one of our top state contract office suppliers, which can actually give you the opportunity to try a free no-strings-attached cartridge and get the best guaranteed pricing and service around. The program will be announced soon. --Marie Helms -------------- This message did not originate from the Office of Community Relations.
