This edition focuses on Central Campus projects. If you have questions or need additional information, contact Facilities Services at 704-330-6563. WEEK OF JULY 15, 2002 Construction is kicking into high gear on Central Campus for the Sloan-Morgan renovation, IT Classroom Building, and Central Energy Plant. The good news is that the Sloan-Morgan Building and IT Classroom Building will be great places to learn and work; the Central Energy Plant will provide better heating and cooling systems for these buildings plus others on Central Campus that are added to it in the future. The bad news is that there are inconveniences that have to be endured for these improvements to be built. Here is an update on some of the changes you will see around Central Campus in July and August 2002. Central Energy Plant and Faculty Parking Faculty Parking Deck will house the Central Energy Plant in the northwest corner of the first floor (location of rear entrance to Pease Lane), displacing 54 parking spaces (56 will remain available on first floor). Beginning Saturday, July 27, the rear entrance from Pease Lane will close permanently. All traffic must enter and exit the deck from Fourth Street as of July 27. Pease Lane should not be used except by service vehicles and delivery vehicles headed to Shipping and Receiving. The ramp exiting the upper floors of the Faculty Parking Deck is being adjusted to allow vehicles to clear the construction fencing that will be installed inside the first floor in August. This modification is under construction and will be completed by the end of July. The seven parking spaces outside the Faculty Parking Deck at the Fourth Street entrance gate will be permanently eliminated when a temporary driveway is constructed to access the Sloan Morgan and Central Energy Plant sites. The temporary driveway will be constructed in August; the parking spaces may be used until the area is blocked. Sloan-Morgan Sloan Morgan has construction fencing along three sides of the building for safety. Pedestrian pathways remain open on both sides of Sloan-Morgan from the parking deck to Elizabeth Avenue. The fencing will remain in place until the project is completed in the spring of 2003. Parking Student parking lot at IT Classroom Building site (southwest corner of Elizabeth and Independence) will be fenced in August, with a gate available for students to continue parking at that lot until approximately Labor Day. In September, the lot will permanently close as the IT Classroom Building is constructed at the site. The College is lining up other surface parking opportunities for students within easy walking distance of campus to offset the loss of existing parking lots. Student parking lot at Independence Annex (northeast corner of Fourth and Independence) will be fenced in July and permanently closed to student parking. This area will be used exclusively for construction staging (materials storage and offices) during the Central Campus Master Plan projects and will be the site of a future facility. Both the Independence Building and Annex will no longer be used for classes as of fall semester 2002. Parking lot at College Administration Buildings (formerly Colony Court) will be the site of construction activities for installing elevators in three buildings and renovating the interior of 1322 College Administration (Building 3). The Fourth Street entrances will be blocked to vehicular traffic during construction of the elevators for 1300 (Building 1- President/Cabinet/Internal Audit) and 1308 (Building 2-HR and Financial Services). The parking lot at this facility must be accessed from westbound Independence Boulevard. --Wanda Towler From communicator at cpcc.edu Tue Jul 16 15:30:42 2002 From: communicator at cpcc.edu (Office of Community Relations Communicator) Date: Tue, 16 Jul 2002 15:30:42 -0400 Subject: [Cpcommunicator] Leaders' Book Club meets 7/17 Message-ID: -- From Diann Back The CPCC Leaders' Book Club is scheduled to meet Wednesday, July 17, at noon in LRC 405.
